Where my inspiration is coming from today is Imanbek and it all started with their Roses Remix. I just came across them on the radio the other day when I ventured out into the world. The remix of SAINt JHN’s song ‘Roses’ played and I immediately was moving to the music. I have dedicated today to them and hopefully they will help me find the writing rhythm of the day. There is a lot to get done today and so far Imanbek has been doing their job. Let us look at what the beginning of May holds.
Organizing and Planning May
I recently purchased a new planner for my desk. It is a week by week calendar where I fill in the month and day. I bought this for one reason and that is took keep my writing plans organized and in one place.
I also just purchased some new notebooks from Gotcha Covered Notebooks. I invested in some of their notebooks two years ago and used half of each notebook; then they got forgotten about, between moves and life changes. I recently found them again and have been using them to take notes for my research. Now, the pages are almost filled and I realized I need more of this brand. So I got two more small ones (what I already had) and a large one.
One of the posts I am working on today will actually be, Organized Planning in May. This post will give all the details of what products I am using, what strategy I have for success in May, and everything you need to know to help you stay organized this month. This post will actually be the first of one of the challenges I am doing for May, which is why I am only posting it later this week and not before. I am just trying to follow the schedule of the challenge.
What is challenging me in May?
I have decided to participate in two challenges this month. Why? Well the truth is quarantine is starting to affect my motivation each day. I thought the challenges I chose will not only help with motivation but improve my blog and my creativity.
30 Day Blog Challenge
In Alina Bradford’s ebook The No-Fluff Guide to Writing Web Content, she supplies her readers with the 30 day blog challenge. This is a well thought out content building schedule for your blog. It is perfectly designed for beginners (like me) who are still trying to find the groove of writing and posting content that actually gets read and sparks conversation.
For example: Today is Day 4 of the challenge and I am to write a blog post but not posting it until Day 7. By doing this she is giving the time in between, writing the post and publishing the post, to focus on editing and media building. As the challenge continues, these editing and media days disappear into one full day, and new ideas and content production begin.
Now you understand why the Organized Planning in May post will only be posted later this week. Hint: that means on Day 7. I am excited to see how this challenge will improve even just this one simple post I have planned.
My goal is that this challenge will increase my ability to successfully write and post content that people both want to read and will help them, or at least spark some conversation.
I plan on writing a post about the different books and authors out there that can help other writers improve and find their own writing rhythm. Just like me. So stay tuned for that one to learn more about Alina Bradford’s The No-Fluff Guide to Writing Web Content and more.
MerMay with @jamess.arts
MerMay is a special month for some artists. It is where you basically draw either new characters or existing characters as mermaids. One artist I have followed for years on Instagram is @jamess.arts and each May he releases his mermaid challenge schedule.
This year, like most, is based on Disney and Fairytale characters. With five categories and 22 characters, this is what the 2020 MerMay challenge looks like for @jamess.arts.
I have decided to do this challenge just for the simple fact that I love Disney and I wanted a more creative outlet this month. I am hoping the mindset of creating through a media other than words will actually help me with my writing process. It will give my mind a break from the words but continue the creativity and let it continue to flow.
What is May’s TBR?
Over the past month I lost my motivation to read. I just went into a huge reading slump that I couldn’t force myself out of. For more on how this happened and what I planned to do to overcome the disconnection from reading, check out my post Reading Rupture: Why am I not reading?
I plan on reading everyday again, even if it is just a chapter, to gain that motivation back. I have already been back at it for two days now and I already have a much needed improvement on my reading habits.
This month’s To Be Read list:
If you look back to my second inspiration series post: Inspiration 02: Espresso && Flowers, you can see my last TBR and you might notice that the first two are the same. Like I said before, I was having trouble getting motivated to read. Fortunately, you can still see the brief descriptions I left of each book.
You will also see that I switched out the fourth book in The Witcher Series to Riley Sager’s first book. I did this for a few reasons:
- I have decided to make books 4-6 of The Witcher Series my TBR for June.
- I love Riley Sager and he always releases a new book in July. I have read every one of them except for his first, Final Girls. In anticipation for his new book Home Before Dark, I feel it is finally the time to dig into his first one.
- I also want to do a book review of Final Girls in June as a, let us say, psych up, for the new book release.
Speaking of book reviews
I have decided to get back on the book review train. Before my reading slump I would take detailed notes of the books I was reading (I will be starting this up again). I am going to use those book notes to help start writing posts about what I have found interesting and why I either liked a book or loved it through, book reviews.
I love reading book reviews and seeing other bibliophile’s opinions on books that I have also read or ones I plan on reading. If it is a well written book review I am bound to add that book to my TBR.
These are the book reviews I will be working on:
Changes Made and What to Look For
I made some changes to both my business plan and website. When I first started this I had a lot of plans and ideas; more of them than I could handle and accomplish, at least at the moment. I have decided to dial it back a little and focus on my main service and interest, writing.
This change comes with the idea that I just want to share my writing skills and help those who might not have the time to write for their own company. I have decided to make Organized Planning a Freelance Writing Service and you can find more information about this change on the main page of the Organized Planning site, here.
